Subject: Suggested SLA for T1A From: Richard Shockey Date: Wed, 20 Apr 2005 18:33:15 -0400 To: tac@lists.mci.com Typical SLA for Regisries comprise 4 components 1. DNS 2. WHOIS / IRIS 3. Zone Data Update's 4. SRS managemement Since the T1A does not really have requirements for 2 -3 there is only the DNS. Suggested bullet points for DNS SLA's DNS: The DNS operations of the T1A registry operator shall be availability at 100% of the time. The DNS service of the T1A registry operator will not have any planned unavailability At any time, 70%(TBD) of the total active name server sites of the registry operator must be available at all times. T1A registry operators may sign up for higher SLA. Example (xx% of x nameserver sites) Example 75% avaiability of 4 nameserver sites would require 3 be available at all times. The optimal measure the cross network nameserver performance(CNNP)shall be a over all goal of less than 300 msec round trip time on all queries with packet loss below 10% Of DNS operations, 70% will complete in 250 ms or less or 80% will complete within 300 msec and 90% within 500 ms. The network design incuding both total number of nameservers as well as the requirements for network diversity and bandwith aviability will IMHO derive from the SLA requirements. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Richard Shockey, Senior Manager, Strategic Technology Initiatives NeuStar Inc. 46000 Center Oak Plaza - Sterling, VA 20166 sip:rshockey(at)iptel.org sip:57141@fwd.pulver.com ENUM +87810-13313-31331 PSTN Office +1 571.434.5651 PSTN Mobile: +1 703.593.2683, Fax: +1 815.333.1237 < mailto:richard(at)shockey.us> or < mailto:richard.shockey(at)neustar.biz> < http://www.neustar.biz> ; < http://www.enum.org> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
